'Change in electronic interlocking behind Odisha train crash'

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw attributed the unfortunate train accident in Balasore, Odisha, to a 'change in electronic interlocking.' Electronic interlocking refers to a system of signal apparatus designed to prevent conflicting movements between trains by managing the arrangement of tracks. This safety measure ensures that signals cannot be changed in an incorrect sequence. The primary goal of electronic interlocking is to ensure that trains are not given the signal to proceed unless the route is confirmed to be safe. He said, 'This is a different issue. It is about point machine, electronic interlocking. The change that occurred during electronic interlocking, the accident happened due to that. Whoever did it and how it happened will be found out after proper investigation.' He further said that restoration work is going on and normalcy will be restored before Wednesday morning.
