    Sweden is planning to reintroduce the conscription of civilians for its emergency services in the second week of Jan. 2023. This is being seen as another move by the Nordic nation, which has a long history of wartime neutrality, to strengthen its defence capabilities in the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war. The Swedish government is also reportedly engaged in ‘broadening’ the civil conscription drive, which under the current plan only concerns municipal rescue services, and is considering the possibility of reintroducing civil conscription in other parts of the country’s civil defence infrastructure too.
