TASMAC liquor stores in Tamil Nadu reopened with regulations | Explained

State run TASMAC liquor stores reopened in Tamil Nadu on Saturday, except in Chennai and Tiruvallur districts. This comes after the Supreme Court ordered an interim stay on the Madras High Court judgement directing closure of all liquor stores in the state. When the outlets were first opened during the lockdown on May 7, unprecedented scenes were witnessed all across the state. Physical distancing norms were blatantly violated and most of the shops were overcrowded.  Guidelines laid down by the Madras High Court were also not followed. However, this time around, authorities are trying to regulate the crowd by giving 500 colour coded tokens for each shop per day. Customers have also been asked to wear masks compulsorily. Further, Tamil Nadu police has also stepped up its bandobust outside liquor stores to ensure that social distancing and lockdown norms are not violated.
